UCI Biology professors are using Peerceptiv to scale deeper learning in their courses while easing the grading burden.
UC Irvine Bio Case 1: Writing in the Discipline
All BIO 101 writing assignments were entirely submitted and graded through Peerceptiv peer assessment. Students uploaded their own summaries of articles they had read. Their peers evaluated them and provided feedback. Using Peerceptiv allowed all 700+ students across multiple sections to write more without requiring the instructor or TAs to grade all student submissions themselves. The learning data confirmed peer grading correlated highly with instructor grading.
UC Irvine Bio Case 2: Lab Reports
A UCI instructor used Peerceptiv to assign multi-draft lab reports in all 10 of her lab classes. She had students turn in a first draft of the lab report by the middle of the semester. Students rated and provided feedback on the initial draft and then submitted the final version of the lab report at the end of the semester. The quality of work improved from the first to the second draft, and the instructors were able to focus their time on the students and the aspects of those lab reports that most needed additional support.
Peerceptiv provides all necessary guidance in course and assignment setup. For more information about how Peerceptiv might be used in your course, please contact support@peerceptiv.com.
